Accidents on industrial and manufacturing sites are unfortunately rather common. You don’t want to get hurt as you operate that machine or work around the manufacturing site. Thus you have to be conscious about your safety and take necessary precautions to ensure your safety and the safety of those around you. A little effort will help you avoid injuries. You have to keep checking your work environment throughout the day to ensure that everything is in place and nothing can endanger your life.

Follow through and see some of these tips that will keep you safe in the industry site

Proper communication

As an employee working in a manufacturing setting, you have a responsibility to ensure that you’re adhering to the site’s rules and restrictions. You have to aware of your environment and check that it is free from objects that can harm you. You have a responsibility to your co-workers to inform management of dangers in the environment. Your supervisor has a legal obligation to keep you and other employees safe and therefore you should inform them of anything that may endanger you.

Use equipment and machines properly

Every machine has an operation manual that you should use always. Proper adherence to it and any other tool helps you avoid workplace injuries. Again, you have to make sure you use any work tool for the intended purpose. Clean the equipment and ensure regular maintenance.

 Wear safety equipment (PPE)

When working or cleaning any mess in the factory, ensure you have the right protection gear. This is to ensure that you don’t get injuries or even burns from dangerous chemicals. Never work with machines when you have no protective wear; you’re just endangering your life.

Protect yourself from slips and trips

Statistics show that the second main cause of nonfatal occupational injuries is slips and trips. All aisles should be clear and any spills cleaned promptly to prevent employees from tripping. Drip pans and guards should be used when dealing with a liquid. There should not be holes, nails projecting from the floor, or even loose boards. Damaged floors should be replaced. Floors that are not easy to clean should be replaced with anti-slip ones.

Keep the work area clear

Ensure the exits are clear by unblocking any clutter, equipment shutoffs, and the working area. When you’re working area is cluttered, you may not have enough space to pick tools and equipment. If the exit is obstructed, you can’t escape in case of an emergency. Everything should be properly kept in its space so that the exits are clear.

Fire hazards should be eliminated

Are you using combustible materials in your working area? Keep only what you need. If the chemical you are using is highly flammable, you should keep it away in a storage area away from other sources of ignition.

Use the right lifting posture

Always keep your back straight when lifting things. Do not stoop or twist; use your legs to lift while keeping your back straight. You can also use mechanical aids like the conveyor belt forklift and such.

When working in a manufacturing site, it is important to keep safe. Avoid shortcuts that compromise your safety at all costs. Make sure the industrial equipment is up to date and safe to use. Most importantly, follow the manufacturer’s safety manual when handling a tool or equipment.
